Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Oregon Maritime Museum was founded in Portland OR in 1980. Please note that our original name was The Oregon Maritime Center & Museum. That name was changed in 2003 - we are now simply Oregon Maritime Museum.
What is your primary product or service?
OMM is a maritime history museum. We share the story of the rich history of the Portland region's waterfront. Our primary artifact, the Steamer PORTLAND, is the last operating steam sternwheel tug in the US; you may come aboard to learn about the steamer and much much more!
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
OMM is the only maritime history museum in the Portland OR region.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one fabulous location that is open to the public: the Steamer PORTLAND; our office and library are located elsewhere. We hope to expand to a full fledged maritime center in the next 10 years; no plans at present.
Provide detailed directions to your location
The Steamer PORTLAND is docked permanently on the Willamette River near Tom McCall Waterfront Park in downtown Portland. Cross streets nearby are: Pine St & Naito Parkway. Physical address for the steamer is available, but will not GPS well.
The museum office and library are at 115 SW Ash Street, Suite C.
What type of payments do you accept?
Credit cards (Visa or MasterCard) and PayPal.
Which areas do you service?
We serve the entire planet; the majority of our visits are from guests out of state or out of the country.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
The museum is a 501c3 non profit. It is managed by volunteers including a Board of Trustees.
What are your hours of operation?
The museum hours on the Steamer PORTLAND are Weds, Fri and Saturday, 11am to 4pm (gates close at 3:30). Office and library hours vary; call ahead at 503.224.7724 or email info@oregonmaritimemuseum.org.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
You've done a great job preserving important artifacts, and your docents are wonderful.
