Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
United Way has been helping people in the four-county metro area since 1920. We work with community leaders and service providers to identify and prioritize the needs, leverage contributions, and achieve measurable results. Our grant-funding model identifies partners and projects that promote collaboration, efficiency, innovation, and results.
What is your primary product or service?
United Way of the Columbia-Willamette is a local, nonprofit organization that works to advance the common good by focusing on the basic things we all need for a good life: education, income, and health. Our goal is to create long-lasting changes that prevent problems from happening in the first place.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
No other single organization meets the broad range of needs addressed by United Way. United Way goes beyond fundraising by researching the needs of the community and bringing the right resources and people together to solve tough local issues. We work with business, government, and partner agencies to develop regional health and human service policies and strategies. We fund programs that are meeting people’s needs today and we’re working on innovative solutions for lasting change.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
United Way of the Columbia-Willamette serves Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties in Oregon, and Clark County in Southwest Washington. In 2007, UWCW funded 52 partner agencies and 74 projects with more than 100 collaborating partners. Each year, the community campaign reaches over 1,000 companies and 270,000 employees, and has approximately 34,000 donors and 1,000 volunteers.
What type of payments do you accept?
